EASY, FUN, HELPFUL December 24, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Como esta'?
Muy bien, gracias.
How many who say they do not speak Spanish understand those words? A good many I'd assume, which is a simple example of how familiar Spanish is to many of us. Most will be surprised at the number of English words that are related to Spanish words, thus quickly become a part of our vocabulary.
The ease with which it can be learned was not the only reason I was prompted to try Spanish, but we do live in Texas and have a large Spanish speaking population. Plus, I'm told Spanish is the fastest growing language in the world, and is the official language on four continents.
After just a few hours of listening I realized what a truly beautiful language it is, and how easily pronounced (compared to my forced jousts with French).
Those who have experienced Mark Frobose's method of teaching know just how effective and practical it is - with an emphasis on frequently used vocabulary and a wonderful native speaker to demonstrate proper pronunciation. For us there hasn't been time better spent than with these lessons. Seldom is learning such pleasure.

If you drive 15 minutes a day, you can learn Spanish! December 19, 2008 I drive 15 minutes to work and 15 back. I have used this course and improved my Spanish dramatically just by doing what I do 5 days a week. Instead of listening to the radio, I listen to these CDs. It is almost effortless. A native speaker allows you to improve your accent. I took an adult education course recently and by far my accent was the most authentic. It is well organized, even though at times you wonder where he is going. I am so enthralled with this course that as I was finishing part 1 and looking at part 2, I ended up buying both 2 and 3 at the same time. And I am glad I did.
Great Course December 16, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I bought this course about 1.5 years ago along with Behind the Wheel Spanish II. I have a couple hundred hours of Behind the Wheel Spanish behind me now and am used to the way it is done. I have also just recently preordered Behind the Wheel III which is due out next month (1/2009).
A couple weeks ago, I also bought Learn in Your Car Spanish and Drive Time Spanish. I like the fact that both Behind the Wheel and Learn in Your Car spend most of the time doing Spanish drills with two Spanish repetitions. I very frequently listen more closely to the second repetition to hear a nuance I misunderstood during the first translation. Since I am always driving, rewinding every minute or two for this purpose as is necessary with "Drive Time Spanish" is not safe or reasonable. (Drive Time Spanish didn't survive the week in my car.)
I believe the version of Behind the Wheel that it I have may be older than what is being sold here since at least the packaging looks different. The version I have looks like Mark Frobose may have produced it himself in his basement, but it still works fine and I highly recommend the entire Behind the Wheel series.
The first course, "Behind the Wheel I", I like the Spanish speaker, Luis, because he is very easy to understand.
In "Behind the Wheel II", Luis is gone and replaced mainly by Diego and a couple token appearances of unnamed male voices and a female named Maria. I find Diego more difficult to understand than Luis because he tends to fade out at the end of many words. For example, words that end in 'r' or 'd', generally sound like they end in an 'h' or just don't end at all and the word is just cut short. Since much of Spanish depends on the last letter or syllable of the verb to know who is doing something, this trailing off at the end makes it difficult to learn some of these things. I end up turning the sound up in the car very loud to try to hear the endings of words.
The other named speaker in In Behind the Wheel II is Maria. She is fairly clear, but speaks very fast and when I first started the course, I was exasperated trying to pick words apart. Now a year later, I am able to understand her fairly well, but it was frustrating at first.
I highly recommend the Behind the Wheel courses (at least I and II that I have so far) and follow them with the Learn in Your Car course. Behind the Wheel gives the basics including numbers, lots of verbs, and nouns. And Mark clearly explains the grammar and conjugation but does it briefly enough that it doesn't wear you out the 50th time I repeat the lesson. The Learn in Your Car course includes 100's of sentences of all types. I really like the combination of these two courses and I am starting to think perhaps even I will be able to speak Spanish some day... :)
Hope this helps someone. Thanks, Steve.
HIGH INTEREST LEVEL CD'S AND BOOK November 2, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
THIS CD SET IS VERY ENTERTAINING AND KEEPS YOUR INTEREST. I HAVE PURCHASED BOTH LEVELS 1 AND 2. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM. McGRAW-HILL HAS GREATLY IMPROVED THE QUALITY OF THE ORIGINAL VERSION. I LOVE TO LISTEN TO THESE BOTH IN MY CAR AND HOME.
Fun and improved! October 13, 2008 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
These discs are a lot of fun to fill the time on the commute and it is great to learn such a useful language without effort or having to make time for it.
These are based on early an earlier cassette version, but they are completely updated with additions and more user friendly timing, i.e. longer pause for translations.
