doesn't work for my 2 macs January 6, 2009 I tried & tried to get this to work with my Mac mini and G5, but no luck. Even sent the unit back to the manufacturer. The monitor switch works, but not the keyboard / mouse. Just got the IOGear GCS22U 2-Port USB KVM Switch and it works fine.
It works! December 29, 2008 I purchased this in a retail store for ten dollars more than Amazon is selling it for, and I still think it was worth it. (Though I'm kicking myself for not getting it here, lol.)
I'm using this switch to connect a 19" LCD monitor and the Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Desktop 7000 to my Mac mini and Gateway PC. (I thought I saw a review that said it didn't work with wireless keyboards, so I want to emphasize that -- for me -- it has been working splendidly.) I've been nothing but pleased with the quality and performance so far. I can't speak for the included software, as I haven't tried it.
It was an absolute breeze to set up -- I just connected the cables and it worked... on both the Mac and the PC. No software needed. There are two buttons on the unit that can be used to switch between computers. Since I keep the switch out where it's easily accessible, this is just as convenient as having hot keys (which the software is supposed to let you set up).
Some things to be aware of:
- This KVM switch is best used if your two computers are fairly close -- the cables included are not that long. - Even as small as it is, it's kind of awkward finding a place on the desk for it. Cables stick out every which way, so it looks a bit sloppy. (Not a huge deal... but if you're tight on desk space, it's something to consider.) - There is a small delay switching -- only a couple of seconds. Not a terrible thing. - Be aware that there is no audio switching. If you're looking for something to share one set of speakers between computers, this is not it.
Overall, I'm thrilled with this little guy. I've freed up a ton of space on my desk, and can easily switch between my Mac and my PC in almost no time. I didn't need the audio switch, so this was a perfect fit and reasonably priced. Highly recommended.
worked ok . and then stopped working December 29, 2008 I bought his to use at work where I was going to share 2 laptops with a monitor. (At home I have a great KVM from connectpro. )
The unit worked for a while (a month or so) then I noticed that I would have to reboot computers every now and then to get video signal or mouse or keyboard signal. Then I had to do it almost every time I wanted to switch computers. What a hassle. Don;t bother with this one if you are using laptops. (one was a DEll (worked fine) the other was an HP on a docking station (this is the one that gave all the trouble)
KVM December 24, 2008 Gave this item as a Christmas present to my son. He said the item works as expected and a good bargin for the price.
i bought it for the wrong thing but it works perfect! December 10, 2008 whoops it thought this product was to be used to switch between two monitors not use them at the same time but if you are here to use two monitors at the same time then you got your moneys worth now i have to figure what will i do now?
