5 out of 5 stars so far so good   January 6, 2009
I bought this enclosure last week directly from Eforcity for $6.99 (just missed their special deal of $3.99 couple hours). Just popped my WD 2.5" SATA 320GB and plugged it in (WinXP); there I went with all my stuff in the drive. I didn't even need both the double-head USB plugs; one was enough though it's kinda slow a bit (could be underpowered, or the big size of my harddrive, or both.)
It can be better if they had assembling instruction (they did have operation manual, some screws and an useless screw-driver); you have to use some common sense to figure it out. Hint: to open the case, you need to press and hold the only small button while open the two halves.
Overall, it looks nice, compact, simple, plug-n-play. I give it 4.7 score actually. Highly recommended!

4 out of 5 stars 2.5 inch Hard Drive Enclosure   December 24, 2008
I purchased this 2.5 inch SATA Hard Drive Enclosure and what I really like about is it's light and comes with a carrying case. I don't know who makes it because there's no manufacturer's name on the box, but it comes from China, there are no assembly instructions and it came with instructions on how to use disk management to create a signature and format an OEM disk but they're written in really bad English grammar. The HDD mount is made of a light silver-colored plastic material but it seems strong enough to safely mount the HDD with four screws and screw driver included. The USB cable includes a Y-connector for extra power if your PC's USB port can't support the drive's power requirements so you'll need two USB ports on your PC to use it if you need extra power to run your drive -- this mostly applies to 7200 rpm drives, not 5400 rpm drives. I purchase a silver colored aluminum enclosure, but the black one also looks nice.

5 out of 5 stars Works perfectly and easy to assemble.   November 19, 2008
This is an inexpensive HDD enclosure so you aren't getting the highest quality available, but it works perfectly and is easy to assemble. I got it for only $7 and it was worth every penny. If you are going to rough up your hard drive you might look for something with a rubberized coating or a single-body design with a screw-in lid. This is a 2-piece top and bottom design that snaps together.

4 out of 5 stars Great for the price   November 17, 2008
I purchased the hdd enclosure for an old laptop hard drive and have been very pleased with it. I purchased it for $7 shipped, and for the price, it was a very good deal.

I have found this drive very portable, and slightly more durable than expected (it has survived being dropped from about 4 ft several times, but thats not recommended). I love the fact that it is powered only from the USB port and requires no additional power cords, unlike larger drives which require an external power source.

It is constructed of relatively cheap plastic and came with no instructions on how to use it. However, being an external hdd enclosure, it's pretty self explanatory on how to insert drive and plug into computer. It included no CD for driver support, but thats not necessarily a problem. Both Windows and Mac have built in driver support that mounts the drive and sees the data. I have not tried this on Linux, but it is only mounted a "generic usb drive", so one would assume Linux would have no issues with it as well.

I certainly recommend this drive for the price.

3 out of 5 stars It works.   August 26, 2008

Functionality:
My 2.5" SATA harddrive had a hard time getting into the case, lack of precision making equipment I assume, but after getting some leverage it went in. Plugged it into my computer (XP), formatted and now use it for school work, and portable applications. All the computers I plug it in to are unable to "eject" it, or tell it to shut off. I have not had any loss of information from "drive write failure" yet, but it may worry some. I think this problem arises because it is powered by USB and there is no on/off switch. Overall functionally is great.
Aesthetics:
The black casing with the silver middle makes it a very attractive casing, with minor smudging.
Quality:
Top and bottom pieces seem strong, but I'm not quite sure I'd drop this 5 feet and expect my harddrive to still work. When I was trying to open it, I broke off an unnecessary peice, (cheap plastic) and the USB cable wiggles up and down easily, but does not come out.
Other thoughts:
Came with useless (to me) CD.
The case for the case is nice, keeps extra dirt out of the casing, I would hope, otherwise it is useless.
Overall: (out of 5)
Functionality: 4
Aesthetics:3
Quality: 2
(Quality for price is right on the mark though.)
Comes down to an overall 3. =)
