Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Heavily Loaded Private Server - Solid Functionality - Good Value for Money   November 11, 2008
Here's a very solidly built machine and more features than what you can count on your two hands. I received this 1TB MvixBOX (pre-installed 1TB HDD)... and I was up and running within 10 minutes. Working with it for about 10-days now - I am pleasantly surprised with this machine. This unit is meant for somebody who wants a NAS / Media Server / Web Server - but cannot or does not want to tinker with building, configuring and troubleshooting a server from scratch. You don't have to be technically adept to get it online and working, but for those who are, there are a wealth of options and settings available to tweak and configure as you see fit. Considering the elaborate set of features - I think this is one of the most affordable units in the market today - Very competitively priced.

Pros:-
1) A 3-in-1 Server: NAS for File Storage, Media Server and Web-Server
2) Linux-based model with complete Shell access via SSH - you can configure whatever you want ! Literally.
3) Gigabit network - configured for streaming 1080p or Blu-ray rips across your home network. (Your router may be your bottleneck)
4) Rapidshare functionality - Ability to email a file-link to your friend or coworker. This works for both upload and download. Works exactly like Rapidshare or Megaupload service. Love this feature - now we can send our kid-videos to parents via a link (and not via FTP accesss!)
5) USB-Hosts - Ability to attach external storage device (like an external HDD) - making the storage capacity virtually endless. This is above the fact that this NAS device provides full redundancy via RAID1.
6) Torrent Functionality- Download and forget. But make sure you password protect everything that you download :)
7) Versatile administrative interface - assign thousands of user accounts, flexible etc. Can control the device from any browser - any place on the planet. The full admin control portal is web-accessible.
8) Easy drag and drop of files from your PC to the NAS device via Webdisk - the NAS unit shows up like a mapped drive on your PC and you can simple upload and download files from it - via a simple explorer-like interface widget that comes with the unit.

Cons:-
1) Initialization and Setup possible only via a Windows Machine. Once the setup is completed, you can use a linux or Mac client (PC) along with this NAS.
2) No LCD - thought not required. It will be cool to monitor the system environment via the LCD.
3) Wireless ability - this will be a dream come true.

I would recommend this unit to anybody looking for a NAS device - home or small business user. If you have a few laptops around the home or office, and want a centralized file and print server, then I can offer the experience that this one has served me very well in that capacity. This is a near perfect unit - and its vast range of feature is almost unbelievable. In my 10-days of usage, I have barely scratched the surface of what all can be done. If you are a linux geek - this server is total heaven for you.
